There are a few similarities to the Na'vi from the film Avatar, but not enough to raise any red flags. It is all a matter of context; don't hold back on the creativity. I am intrigued by the prospects that this design, this interesting character, could create for your story.
However, I think that the eyebrows could use a little bit of work, as the texture seems to have been added to them as an afterthought. There are also a few rough lines on the upper-right of the skull.
Furthermore, I think that there should be a shadow of the character behind him, to enhance the contrast and make him "pop out" at the viewer. By doing this I can almost promise you that your audience will be captivated if you pull this off successfully.
I would like to personally thank you as a critic of the BSC for requesting giving this piece our attention. I have grown rather fond of it, so I will add it to my gallery of favorites, Gizmoenut.
Hmm, I may just draw that part of it later.
